catwalksalone: happy grey cat surrounded by flowers (ds team romance)
[personal profile] catwalksalone posting in [community profile] ds_team_romance
Hey guys! Posting here on the urging of the boss *salutes [livejournal.com profile] slidellra*

Don't know if you're all aware but BATTLE LINES HAVE BEEN DRAWN. It's all the other team's fault, of course, because we are sweetness and light and puppies gambolling in the fields making friends with the baby baa lambs ...

Where was I?

Oh. Yes. So battle has been raging from one end of lj to the other and we are starting to divide up our goods and chattels as we prepare for WAR.

This is where we're at so far:

Language: Team Romance - French (the language of love, my little cauliflower), Team Angst - German (the language of nihilism - kinda).

Alcoholic beverages (see how we get the important stuff in first?): Team Romance - champagne (mais, naturellement, parce que nous sommes Francais - and that's about the sum total of my French ability so let's settle for Pepe le Peu-style accents), Team Angst - German beer (but that's lager, I said, you want bitter).

Under discussion:

Clothes: Team Romance - Long sweepy dresses, trenchcoats, velvet, soft, brown leather, Team Angst - black leather and stompy boots

Music: Ah, well this is one of the places we need to trounce them. They can have all the whiny complaint-rock they like. We get every single tune that has ever made anyone happy ever, as well as soppy ballads and most of the musical genre as well as the whole of the classical genre termed Romantic (the clue is in the word). [livejournal.com profile] qe2 reckons we get punk. [livejournal.com profile] nos4a2no9 (hisssss, she's behind you! - sorry, my Britishness coming out there) says Team Angst get post-punk, grunge and the blues.

What do we need? We need a theme tune. And romantic mixes. Let's blow these leetle angst-muffins out of the water with our musical choices.

We also need more things to fight about. What's a battle without arguments? Thoughts on what we've got so far? Ideas on what we can steal next? Bring 'em on.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] qe2 also reckons we get red wine and dark chocolate. Which I agree is very romantic, even if they trigger a migraine because then someone gets to smooth back your hair as you throw up into the toilet. Oh, I'm a delight, for sure.

ETA 2: Music currently uploaded can be found here (thanks [livejournal.com profile] caersmane), here (thanks [livejournal.com profile] brynnmck) and then this bunch of stuff from me:

Magnetic Fields:
Nothing Matters When We're Dancing
The Sun Goes Down And The World Goes Dancing
Asleep And Dreaming (played this at our wedding)
Papa Was A Rodeo
Kiss Me Like You Mean It
Washington D.C.
The Book of Love
When My Boy Walks Down The Street
Underwear

Goldenhorse:
Don't Wake Me Up
Golden Dawn

Aww. Aren't there any kind of stompy boots that are romantic? Just a little?

(Philosophers: We get Rorty and Kant. They get Sartre and Nietzsche.)

HEEE. Yes! I think they should also get Derrida. Derrida is enough to cripple anyone.

Cat, the Headstones make me happy, so that means we get them, right? *beams prettily*

jadelennox: Hey, Derrida! Stop eatin our cake! (pomo: derrida cake)
From: [personal profile] jadelennox
Well, duh! Derrida steals my cake, and that's not romantic at all. Cake is romantic. (Oatmeal and pemmican are either romantic or angsty, depending on the context.)

And did I ever think I'd have a chance to use this icon in context? No. No I did not.

It's like FATE, isn't it?

Oatmeal and pemmican are either romantic or angsty, depending on the context.

HEE. I want that on a pillow.

Um... not generally angsty... um.... Million $ Moment (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=DE8CCC8E7C2FC566)? Oh! And "Anything," which I do not have as a separate file (it's attached to "Physics," which should probably rightfully go to Team Angst), but. We TOTALLY get that one. And Digits (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=0C34982F542FD900), which is really dirty, so that's ours, right?

We definitely get the HDRC, though. Redemption, baby! And gooshy love songs (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=BD2B78003590228B).

In the non-Hugh category, how about...

Jeffrey Foucault - One For Sorrow (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=524833F358338BCA) (much less angsty than the title would suggest)

Redbird - You Are the Everything (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=611E09F91493156F)

Jonny Lang - Touch (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=16E022C857DF7772)

And of course we TOTALLY get Northwest Passage (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=2CE516561DDBF385), right? A grand adventure, and then finding your way home at the end of it? Sounds pretty damn romantic to me!

I'm going to break in here and say that NO, you do not get "Northwest Passage." That song is angst-squared, with an extra helping of angst on the side. Most of Stan Rogers' stuff is. People die at the end of NwP. It's not a happy song. You can take "Fourty-Five Years From Now" or any of the upbeat folk ditties. But we get the sad, heartbreaking Stan Rogers stuff. *firm nod*

And you can take the HDRC. We're quite happy with Headstones' "Nickels for Your Nightmare" and other such angst classics.

We get "Blond and Blue." They can't even PRETEND that that's not ours.

YES. You are SO RIGHT.

Well, it's okay to have a taste of angst in our romantic fic, right? I figure the same logic applies to the wardrobe. Adhere to the romance party line elsewhere on your person, and you can TOTALLY work the stompy boots.

That's my plan, anyway.

You see, I have afew disagreements. Because I hate French, and champagne. I prefer Italian, and Creole. Which has a bit of French. I suppose I could compromise on Cajun French. Velvet and leather are always a good choice (I'm all about pleasing textures).
I nominate Une Histoire d'Amour, by Mirelle Matthieu, as the theme song. I know, I just finished saying I hate French, and I give you a french song. I have the English and French lyrics, and the song, if you want it.

I can deal with the French accent, I guess. Cajun French. Hm.
Link is here: Mirelle Mathieu Une Histoire d'Amour. (http://www.sendspace.com/file/3n50w7) Lyrics: French, followed by English translation. (http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/u/unehistoiredamour.shtml)

Enjoy.

I know practically no French but am all for trenchcoats.

I shall. I often find mine hang out with the question marks.

I can count to ten in French....But my French accent starts off well but then descends into a bizarre German, French hybrid mix with a tinge of an English accent.

Trenchcoats are a highly underrated peice of clothing.

*tries out a French-skunk accented redition of 'my little angst-muffin'. Scares off one of her cats*

I'm not sure whether that's a reflection on my accent or on the phrase itself... *g*

You are WONDERFUL with your plotty ways and your division of property. *chugs champagne and mangles a French accent* *beams wildly*

Oooh! I have stockings with lines up the back. Yessssssss. And now I really do want to dress up for this.

Coffee: They get bitter black coffee, drunk in the dead of night. We get frothy cappucino, possibly with a dusting of cinnamon or chocolate on top.

Tea: Maybe this is my Britishness coming out. Any ideas here?

Dance: We get the waltz, the tango, the happy shuffle of feet in anticipation, the bump and grind at the club. They get the crazy person I-dance-alone-for-no-one-dances-with-me dance.

Food: We get piping hot Chinese take-out, just delivered. They get the remenents of last night's pizza, cold, hard and wangy.
